Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County
Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County is a nonprofit charitable organization that started in 1973 as a collaboration between eleven faith-based organizations in downtown Fort Worth to bring food to the elderly in the central city area. Today, the organization serves all of Tarrant County.
The Meals On Wheels community service program provides home-delivered meals, professional case management, and other needed items or services to elderly or disabled home-bound residents. They respond to numerous community needs, including malnutrition, food insecurity, social isolation, poor mental or physical health. For many of the recipients, the daily meal may represent the only human contact they have on a given day. Most clients have aged in place, living in the same home for many years. Their home is where they feel safe and comfortable. Many were self-sufficient and productive their entire lives, and now they can no longer remain at home without some assistance.
The Barrows Firm has been involved with Meals On Wheels since 2007 through Leslie’s active volunteerism. She participates in the Tarrant County and Northeast Tarrant County community service programs.
